DC Jubsal

Mario Lanza was a famous American tenor and Hollywood movie star in the 1940′s-1950′s. During his short stay (1921-1959) on earth, he recorded many big pieces of music in his way, such as Because you are mine, O Sole Mio, Younger than springtime. He was one of the best singers of century 20. Mario Lanza was also a Hollywood star. As an actor, he attended performances in several movies, such as The Great Caruso. In these films he was an actor as well as a singer. He sang Be my love in film the Toast of New Orlean. However, for unknown reason, his life on earth was ended in Rome, Italy when he was only 38 years old. It was a tragedy for all of us. Similar tragedies also happened in music history. Mozart only survived 35 years (1756-1791). Ni Er, a famous Chinese composer who created the widely accepted simple music format, was only 23 years when he was drawn in 1935. There were other similar cases, such as Asia super female singer and best pop star Teresa Deng (1953-1995) only lived on earth for 42 years, “the King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley (1935-1977) only had a short lifespan of 42 years, Pop king Michael Jackson was only 51 years (1958-2009), and our biggest music composer ever Beethoven survived 56 years on earth with poor health and financial conditions. Nat King Cole was only 46 years old when he died in 1965, reported due to heavy smoking and lung cancer.

As one of the best tenor in music history, Mario had many famous music pieces. His signature song Younger than springtime was a Broadway song of Jazz standard from a movie  “South Pacific”. The song was composed by Richard Rodgers with words from Oscar Hammerstein II. His singing of the song is very challenge. With his rich voice, his singing expressed a deep love of all time and is one of the best sappy songs. The technique requirements for singing his version is super high and make singing his version a really difficult challenge for all the tenors, not mention the purity and volume of his voice at the three difficult consecutive high ending notes.

Another best song from him is Because you are mine composed by NICHOLAS BRODSZKY  (Lyrics by SAMMY CAHN). His singing of this song fully exhibited his super ability to control his vocal, once as soft as cotton, a time turning like a flying bird, and a while as straight as laser shooting to the sky. His golden voice was loved, and will be loved by many more.

As reported “Pop King Elvis Presley said of Lanza in 1972: ‘I had records by Mario Lanza when I was 17″.

Another signature song of Mario is La Donna e Mobile, from Rigoletto and composed by Giuseppe Verdi. This song is a very joyful piece and sang by Pavarotti as well. Actually Pavarotti put on a dancing piece of him with a lovely lady. Pavarotti, dancing, and a beautiful lady in one video, you know how joyful Pavarotti had in this song. Of cause he did this song super well. Joyful quick tempo, strong distinct beats, and a very challenge ending are all in one song. Mario also displayed his great talent of vocal ability at the high ending pitches. Two super tenors of centuries 20 and 21 just loved this song, a song loved by many.

Pavarotti said, as reported, that Luciano Pavarotti was also deeply influenced by Mario Lanza, saying: “In my teens I used to go to Mario Lanza movies and then come home and imitate him in the mirror”.

Songs singing by Lanza and Pavarotti are very challenge and lovely. These songs are great assets of human for our joy and happy life.
