It has been long reported that heart disease, or cardiovascular disease, is associated with bad cholesterol (LDL) with contributions from platelets and macrophages for the plaque formation. A new study reported on Journal of Experimental Medicine show that after depletion of B cells from mice with a monoclonal antibody to CD20, less plaques were formed, indicating that B cells involved in plaque formation. This is the first study showed the role of B cells in plaque formation, but due to  the potential risk of depleting B cells from the body, the design of any human study RELATED TO THIS will be important.  An anti-human CD20 antibody Rituximab has been approved for the treatment of B cell lymphoma.
