Coronary artery heart disease is the leading cause of death in US, about 1/3 death was due to heart disease. The incidence of heart disease was lower in women than in men before senior age, but the mortality was higher in women. It is unclear whether the difference was due to sex chromosomes.

A new study reported on Nature showed that 95 gene loci were related to blood lipid levels, especially LDL level. It is interesting that none of the 95 gene loci located on X or Y chromosome, suggesting that the difference seen between women and men in heart disease might be not due to sex chromosomes.

Although individuals may have different risk of heart disease due to the difference of lipid metabolism, but the key factors contributed to the reduction of death caused by heart disease were primary prevention and improved treatment. Healthy diet is important for both women and men.
